Bundesgrenzschutz Bergmütze, 1967

Here is one of the latest additions to my growing Bundesgrenzschutz collection, courtesy of a friend in Berlin.  Thanks Christian!  This style of hat was worn by the Bundesgrenzschutz into the 1980's, when the beret was issued to replace this old styled hat.


This hat is an original Bundesgrenzschutz Bergmütze that dates to 1967.  The hat was manufactured by Wolfgang Schmidt of Berlin.  Size 57.


The color is Bundesgrenzschutz Graugrün, with the lighter "police green" piping in the crown seam.  The fabric is wool.  The sweat band is grey leather, that is still intact, but a bit torn up and fragile.  The buttons and cockade are attached with "paper clip" wires that are bent over after they are inserted through the fabric.
